The Countrypolitans

|
Melding country and rock with a pop sensibility, the Countrypolitans make a sound all their own. This urban-bred country quintet manages to draw on the roots of American music while defying its boundaries, creating something fresh, unexpected and timeless. Tight songwriting that interlocks themes of love, loss and rebirth with addictive melodies and unconventional arrangements and blazing live performances have helped the Countrypolitans win over audiences on the West Coast and in Europe. The Oregonian newspaper dubbed them "a band to be reckoned with" and raved that the 12 songs on their debut disc "are all keepers, a rare enough feat for a first album." Lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist Elisabeth Ames and bass player and songwriter Roger Conley make up the nucleus of the group. Guitarist Justin DeFreece, pedal steel guitarist Peter Burak and singer/songwriter and guitarist Jonah Howard also perform with the group.
"Tired of Drowning" was released in 1999 on Ultrapolitan Records in the United States and on Holland-based Me and My Records in Europe. Distributed by Burnside Distribution nationally and CRS/Rounder in Europe, the disc was added to playlists on more than 100 radio stations around the world. The band played to packed houses on three tours of Europe in 2000 and 2001. They have opened for Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and performed for Johnny Cash at a private party thrown by the legends relatives. Portland audiences recently voted them best unsigned band in a poll by Portland CitySearch.com. Their song "I Cant Behave" is part of the score for the independent film "Whatever Happened to Tully?"
